Pradhan Mantri Matsya Sampada Yojana has been launched mainly to increase fisheries across the country. The central government has said to spend 20 thousand crores under this scheme in the next five years from the financial year 2020 to 2024 to 25.

This is the most massive amount spent in this sector so far. The scheme will be part of the Self-Reliant India Campaign.

According to the government, about 55 lakh people will also get employment in this scheme. According to the PMO, this is the largest investment so far in the central region.

Under this scheme, an investment of One thousand three hundred ninety crores is envisaged in Bihar. The center will share 535 crore rupees. It has also set a target of producing three lakh tonnes of additional fish.

It is worth noting that Bihar assembly elections are due in November; in such a situation, it can be said that it can also be a step to prepare the ground of the election because the Nitish Kumar government will get the direct benefit of the scheme.
